Many of us know, some can imagine how hard it would be for a woman to become a professional fighter and be taken seriously in decades past. Every person or article on this blog is not directly related to speedbagging. Sometimes news is just news. Props to Rena “Rusty” Kanokogi. Kanokogi was definitely a fighter.

Kanokogi helped create the first Women’s World Judo Championships in 1980 in New York City, mortgaging her home to cover the costs. She coached the U.S. Olympic women’s judo team in Seoul in 1988.

She was born Rena Glickman in 1935 in Brooklyn, near Coney Island. She learned judo from someone in the neighborhood, but her attempts to compete in the city’s judo clubs were met with resistance.

Here’s an article about a reward she received a few months back in France.

Instead of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Rusty Kanokogi Fund for the Advancement of Women’s Judo, administered by the Women’s Sports Foundation.

These "photos" of Oscar De La Hoya surfaced some time ago and have been roundly panned as fraudulent and fake. Never stare at another man's crotch and say "speed bag."

Anyway, Getty Images provides us with a classic shot of Pacquiao getting his speedbag on before he socked up Miguel Cotto. As I mentioned I love open media workouts. It seems fitting to drop a nice vid on my people for sticking with me through this tiresome blog post. Right, right? Gotcha!

Step 3: Use circles. As you start to control the bag, increase your speed and effectiveness by making a circuit of small punching circles. Use circular movements for each punch to keep the bag going. For instance, when you practice jabbing, maintain your hand in a near-jab position and throw the jab in a circular motion.

I am reminded of a video that shows super-trainer Freddie Roach working with a sharp-looking gal with a viscious right-hook. Roach runs down some techniques for using the speed-bag in a fight-training regimen.
