Sonsona Loses Title after Three Months

Many athletes and enthusiasts employ speed bag training as part of a weight-loss regimen or specifically as a calorie-burning activity. I’ve not met a person who cannot appreciate the burn of trying to keep hands and elbows up after 10 minutes on the bag.

Plus, Dude (Sonsona) is a growing-ass dude.
“He’s a young guy exploding into a man,” Tremblay said after Saturday’s weigh-in.

Even after giving up solid food mid-week Sonsona couldn’t slim down any further. When a Friday night workout only got him to 117, Tremblay decided to forfeit the title rather than try something drastic to make weight.

“He could have drained himself down to 115, but after six rounds he would have been a depleted fighter,” he said, noting the danger in sending a dehydrated fighter into the ring. “Why kill him? Why take a possible loss when we have another plan for him anyway?”

Top Rank released a quick glimpse of Manny Pacquiao training for his up coming bout against Miguel Cotto. Manny hits the mitts with his hall of fame trainer Freddie Roach, does some heavy bag, speed bag work and skips rope in this video. Pacman is raring to go as training hits the final stages.

I’m a sucker for the pre-fight open media workout sessions. Ali, Tyson, De La Hoya, Pacquiao…they’re all great. Too bad UFC doesn’t give more of pre-fight show that is live action instead of pre-recorded video packages and highlight reels. I’d love to see the Brock Lesnar’s last workout before Shane Carwin dumps him on his ass.

Anyway, Getty Images provides us with a classic shot of Pacquiao getting his speedbag on before he socked up Miguel Cotto. As I mentioned I love open media workouts. It seems fitting to drop a nice vid on my people for sticking with me through this tiresome blog post. Right, right? Gotcha!
