How to Do Speed Bag Training in Boxing. Sounds promising, right? Let’s dig into and see what’s good.
I don’t like when an article is filed anonymously. But I’m not going to be nitpicky. I’m interested how well the writer gets his point across and whether his point is worth a snot or not. Blablalba, somebody shut me up please so I can finish this blog post.
Alright. This is a well-written, informative article. Even advanced fighters and trainers will enjoy nuggets like this:
Step 3: Use circles. As you start to control the bag, increase your speed and effectiveness by making a circuit of small punching circles. Use circular movements for each punch to keep the bag going. For instance, when you practice jabbing, maintain your hand in a near-jab position and throw the jab in a circular motion.
I am reminded of a video that shows super-trainer Freddie Roach working with a sharp-looking gal with a viscious right-hook. Roach runs down some techniques for using the speed-bag in a fight-training regimen.
“It’s like an opponent so I treat it like an opponent. I’m playing with it. I slip. I go under…” This is classic Freddie!
